The Revell company was founded in 1943 in California (USA) by an enthusiast Lewis Glaser, who wanted to build a small copy of a car by assembling it from several plastic parts. Soon, the production of several large-scale kits was launched. In each new kit, the company's engineers tried to improve the detail of the models and their scale correspondence to real prototypes.
The German subsidiary Revell Plastics GmbH was founded in Bielefeld. Initially, only original model kits imported from the USA and the UK were sold in Germany and neighbouring countries. In 1971, the first German development was created - the BMW R75/5 model in 1:8 scale.
By the mid-70s, the distribution network already included all Western European countries. In 1978, the sales network was expanded to Eastern Europe.
In the 80s, Revell merged with Monogram to work together in the field of modelling. In 2006, the company's European division, Revell Germany, spun off to operate independently.
The worldwide success of the Revell brand is clearly demonstrated by the impressive sales figures of models: in 1995 alone, more than 5 million models were sold. The most popular model kit in the world is the Titanic: more than 2 million copies of the legendary ship have been sold to date.
Revell's catalogue of prefabricated models includes military and civilian vehicles (trucks, cars, sports cars); armoured vehicles (tanks, armoured personnel carriers, armoured personnel carriers); ships (battleships, aircraft carriers, sailing ships, steamers); a series of Star Wars models; radio-controlled toys; human figures; enamel paints, varnishes and glue. Almost all Revell models are duplicated by gift sets containing paints, glue and paint brushes.
Revell products have received many awards: 2013 Car Model of the Year; Toy Award 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017. Repeated recognition from the readers of the Modell Fahrzeug magazine and the title of "Modellbau Premium Brand".
